Australia, India & England Record Victory in Commonwealth Games For Cricket

Australia won the gold medal in the women's cricket tournament at the Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham, England. In the final match held yesterday (7th), the Australian players won the gold medal by recording a sharp victory against India by 9 points.

Chasing a target of 162 runs for victory, the Indian team could score only 152 runs at the end of 19.3 overs. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored 65 runs in 43 balls with 2 sixes and 7 fours but it was not enough for the victory.

Ashley Gardner, who bowled brilliantly, managed to take 3 wickets for 16 runs and Megan Shute, who gave her great support to block the Indian women's team's path to victory, took 2 wickets for 27 runs. It was an unexpected disadvantage that all three Indian players were run out.

The Australian team, who won the toss and batted first, scored 161 runs for the loss of 8 wickets at the end of 20 overs.  The opening batsman Beth Mooney, who engaged in fast batting, scored 61 runs in 41 balls with 8 fours.

Mooney also managed to build a partnership of 74 runs in 47 balls for the second wicket along with captain Meg Lanning (36). Lanning's innings, which faced 26 balls, consisted of sixes and five fours. Ashley Gardner scored 25 off 15 balls with a six and a four.

India won the silver medal after losing in the final and New Zealand won the bronze medal in the third place match against England by 8 wickets.
