Disciplinary Action Will Taken for Players Gone Missing in United Kingdom

A three-member committee has been appointed to conduct a disciplinary inquiry against the two players of the Sri Lanka Beach Volleyball (Men's) team who are said to have gone missing while participating in the 22nd Commonwealth Games which ended in Birmingham, England.

According to a decision taken by the Executive Committee of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation, Mr. Priyantha Jayakodi, a former Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, Vice President of the Sri Lanka Beach Volleyball Association, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee. Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, Vice President of Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation Nimal Perera and its Competition Committee Secretary Dhanapala Jayapatma are other members of the committee.

Malintha Yapa and Ashen Bandara, who have previously won several South Asian and Asian championship beach volleyball medals, have gone missing while participating in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. However, the Sri Lankan athletes who participated in the Commonwealth Games have received extended visas valid for six months to stay in England.

UK Immigration and Emigration authorities say they will start investigating foreign athletes and officials who are suspected to have disappeared in the country after their valid visas have expired.
